Do I Have To Get My Gas Meter Inspected

Brooklynites- protect your home and community – Get Your Gas Meter Inspected
New York State Governor & New York Public Service Commission recently announced a new law requiring natural gas carrier National Grid or Con Ed to inspect all gas meters and lines served by the utility for leaks and corrosion of meters and lines. New Yorkers are required to give access to the utility workers and or their subcontractors for such inspections.
Failure to provide access will results in fines and lost of service.

* workers should have proper I.D before you allow them to enter your home. **
Brooklyn Homeowners and Tenants Know The Signs of A Gas Leak
Smell – Odor similar to rotten eggs
Sounds – Hissing, whistling or roaring from the gas line
Sight – A mist, a white cloud or bubbles in standing water from the lines
If you smell gas inside your home vacate the premises immediately , do not turn on lights, use flashlights, start your car in the garage or use any electronic equipment that could create a spark and lead to a gas explosion.
When you are outside call your utility company or an emergency service
