What is Composting in NYC and When is the Program coming To MY Brooklyn Neighborhood
Composting in Brooklyn
Composting adds nutrients to restores soils and promote plant growth – by composting organic materials such as yard materials and food scraps we can reduce the amount of waste that ends up in our landfills.
Currently the NYC Dept of Sanitation has a pilot program in Redhook, Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights, Winsor Terrace, South Slope, Park Slope, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, and Gowanus Brooklyn . Homes in those areas received brown compost bins that will be set out on the street for curbside pickup on collection day. If your neighorhood is not participating in the pilot program and you would like to learn more or looking for a compost drop off site visit Grown NYC Composting
