J’ouvert in Brooklyn  New York

Monday September 5th, 2011

J’Ouvert Parade begins 4:00am and ends at 10:00am

The Parade begins at Flatbush Ave & Empire Blvd- east along Empire Blvd to Nostrand Ave- south on Nostrand to Rutland Road

 

J’ouvert is a large street party during carnival- J’ouvert is a contraction of the french Jour Ouvert or dawn/day break.

J’ouvers is celebrated in many caribbean island ,  Crown Heights/Flatbush Brooklyn New York and Notting Hill London UK.

The celebration festival starts well before dawn and finishes a few hours after sunrise.  The origin of the street parties with J’ouvert coincide with the empancipation from slavery .
