New York city in partnership with the City University of New York will launch a new online solar map to show solar energy potential for every building in New York City.
Researchers flew planes in a grid pattern over the city and laser charted points, creating a 3-D map of the city’s buildings.
The interaceive tool will allow users to estimate solar energy potential for any building in the city. The map will display realtime solar energy production citywide and allow users to estimate the cost of investing in solar. Homeowners will be able to enter their address and find out how much energy their roofs could capture.
